Jupiter's Wild Man by Lilly Penhall
As the months pass summer has been chilly
hard and cold inside my chest
until you lit my fire again, now warm glimpses of the past
overrun the winter quarters in my brain

cool and elusive
completing my circuit without even trying
just long enough to make bright sparks
but not long enough to solder together

The heart in my stone chest alive again
thump thump thump
the sound as I pound you desperately trying
to break your smooth titanium impenetrable skin

Frightening strength makes me so weak
your eyes deceive me, looking through my clothes
through my skin, your whispers like knives cutting my armor
I grasp naked but your slippery skin casts me off

Hot and blonde they walk by and you think of your blue goddess
send your heavy words through the air
hit me like oranges to the belly
breathless with thoughts of you thinking of me

Our internal machinery works the same, but
you’re breaking the rules forcing your way through
my brick and mortar, lighting me up against the dark sky
squeezing me so tightly, I don’t want you to let go

I fight and fight but you’re getting inside me
Can’t you read the Do Not Fucking Enter sign
riveted to my chest?
Do you realize you’re chipping away my defenses

or are you accidentally tearing down my brick wall?
You’re no fish, you’re a skilled centaur sniper,
untamed, unattached, Jupiter’s wild man
surviving in the world alone

Don’t shoot me, I come in your dream as steam
your fire consumes me through to my blood
my veins are dry summer creeks, I have nothing left to breathe
your clear blue flame burns my skin but I have to touch you

wrap myself around you so the scorching is complete, and
maybe if I can get you hot enough
your titanium armor will melt around you and I can come inside
for as long as I will let myself stay
