Miscellaneous Writings
I'm something of a collector of obsolescence, rarely throwing anything away. An eight-track player sits on the media tower in my living room along with my Blu-ray player, multi-region DVD player, turntable, dual cassette deck, CD changer, media server, and two VCRs. I have a fair-sized collection of 78 rpm records. And although I have no way to play them, I also have a very small collection of Beta format video tapes and Edison wax cylinders. Add to these multiple reel-to-reel tapes, video recordings on the VHS, Video8, Hi8, and miniDV formats, plenty of cassettes and thousands of compact discs, plus scattered memorabilia from years of participation in the Dallas music scene.

As you may have guessed, I tend to hold on to things for a while. This rule applies not only to obsolete technologies, but to pretty much anything I have ever put any serious effort into collecting, using, or creating. On the creative front, this means that anything even slightly significant that I've written in the last couple of decades or so, from ruminations and adolescent fantasies to old high school and college term papers, is likely saved somewhere in some format.

The selections included here represent a fairly mixed bag of material. Some of these were rescued from the hard drive of an old 286 personal computer from the late 80s/early 90s. On some occasions I found inspiration in the stray thought or idea that just popped into my head for no apparent reason. At other times the impetus for writing was the need to respond to some outrageous idea or point of view that I found promulgated somewhere. The style of writing could range from pseudo-academic to documentary style to lighthearted.

The material here represents a sampling of non-blog writing that I've done over the years.
